Pressure treated lumber is designed to resist rot and insect damage, but it still needs to be properly maintained. Regular cleaning and sealing will help protect your wood against the elements, and prompt repairs will help prevent severe damage. By taking care of
your pressure-treated lumber, you can enjoy it for years to come.

In order to keep pressure-treated wood in good condition, it is essential to follow a few simple maintenance steps. Start by cleaning the wood with a cleaner/brightener that contains a mildewcide. This will help to prevent the growth of mold and mildew. Next, apply a water-repellent for surface protection. Sprinkle a few drops of water on the surface. If the wood rapidly absorbs the water, immediately apply a semi-transparent stain or water repellent sealer. If the wood does NOT readily absorb the water in 2-3 minutes, wait a few days and then test again before applying the stain. For best results, we suggest repeating this process every 12 months. Depending on the location of your lumber in regards to direct sun exposure, foliage coverage, and moisture, you may be able to clean/brighten and recoat every two years. By following these simple steps, you can keep your pressure-treated wood looking like new for years to come.
