Selecting the Right Fasteners and Connectors

Always do your research! Ensure that the fasteners or connectors you use comply with the manufacturer’s recommendations and job specs.

For Best Results

Hot-dipped galvanized or stainless-steel fasteners and connectors are suggested for use with treated wood. Many building codes require using these types of fasteners and connectors when using treated wood. Codes typically do not discriminate between types of preservatives used in the wood or exposure conditions.

When selecting fasteners and connectors for your treated wood products, it’s best to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations and consider the end usage. Corrosion can occur when the treated wood contains a preservative that includes different metals than those found in the hardware used. That can trigger a chemical reaction that leads to erosion. Galvanized and stainless-steel fasteners are resistant to corrosion and will not stain your project.
